Inaugural meeting of the Human Element in Shipping Committee (HEiSC)

This week the inaugural meeting of INTERTANKO's Human Element in Shipping Committee (HEiSC) successfully took place in London under the chairmanship of Amir Azizan (AET Inc. Ltd.). The agenda was circulated in Weekly NEWS No.1/2007 dated 5 January 2007.

The Committee reviewed the many and varied suggestions for work items from INTERTANKO's regional panels and committees and agreed to focus its initial work efforts on the following items:

  • Supply and recruitment of seafarers
  • Cadet availability
  • Retention of officers
  • Assisting the Vetting Committee as appropriate with its work on the Tanker Officer Training Scheme (TOTS)

We will be reverting shortly with some short manning surveys to assist the Committee in its work.

The minutes of the meeting will be made available in Weekly NEWS once they have been approved.
