Reminder - Modification to the Oil Record Book (Part I – Machinery space operations) mandatory as from 1 January 2007

As reported in our article in Weekly News No.1/2007 of 5 January 2007, the revision of MARPOL Annex I (reference to the IMO Resolution MEPC 117(52)) entered into force on 1 January 2007. As stated in the article, certain changes have been introduced for the Oil Record Book (ORB) records and these changes became mandatory as from 1 January 2007.

Therefore, the users of the INTERTANKO ‘Guide for correct entries in the Oil Record Book’ are urged to consider the changes and make their crews aware of them.

We wish to inform that the IMO is now working on further amendments to the regulations and guidelines related to onboard ship waste treatment installations and their operation and recording. It is therefore expected that more changes and amendments to the Oil Record Book (ORB), including its ORB format, will become necessary in a relatively short period of time. For this reason, INTERTANKO does not intend to revise the 2006 Edition of its ORB Guide until the IMO’s work is complete.
