THE BACK PAGE OF SEATRENDS WEB OVERSTEPS THE MARK

Many INTERTANKO members, as well as staff, enjoy reading Seatrends WEB. It is never less than informative and the light-hearted stories on the back page often provide fresh insight into complex issues.

However, INTERTANKO takes exception to the article appearing on the back page of last week’s issue relating to INTERTANKO’s involvement in the planned IMAX movie called ‘The Great Ships’. In Weekly NEWS No. 06/2000, we informed the membership about this movie project and the opportunity it presents to promote the role and importance of the tanker industry to a large audience worldwide.

The Seatrends Web approach to this story in last week’s issue is difficult to reconcile with reality and is not what we expect from a responsible and established member of the maritime media. The article is not only pointless, it goes well beyond the bounds of good taste. What the editor sought to achieve is a mystery.
