CANADA ? CLOSING OF THE 2000 NAVIGATION SEASON

Montreal/Lake Ontario Section:
The clearance date for the 2000 navigation season is 2400 hours on 20 December 2000. It will be announced as early as possible in December whether or not vessels will be subject to operational surcharges on 21, 22 and 23 December. The surcharge will not be waived for 24 December.

Welland Canal:
Vessels will be accepted to transit the Welland Canal up-bound at CIP15 and down-bound at CIP16 up to 0800 hours in 24 December 2000. The Welland Canal may be kept open beyond this date depending on vessel demand and operation conditions. However, vessel transits after this time and date will be allowed subject to agents/owners signing a written agreement with the SLSMC.

INDIA/NEW MANGALORE ? IMMOBILISTATION OF BERTH

Oil berth No. 9, where LPG, liquid chemicals, POL products etc. are handled, is likely to be immobilised for three days from 17 to 19 (inclusive) November 2000 for maintenance and replacement of fenders.

INDONESIA/SELAT RUPAT CHANNEL ? IMPROVEMENT

Further to article in P&T No. 3/2000 and Weekly NEWS 21/2000 there has indeed been some improvement in the navigational aids in the channel. It is reported that in general the missing buoys have been replaced and the unlit buoys have been restored to good working condition. Night time navigation is again being performed. INTERTANKO recommends that masters continue to take extra precautions when transiting the Selat Rupat Channel. The light dues of USD 0.027/GT, implemented on 23 May 2000 to raise a fund for the improvement of navigational aids throughout the country, are applicable for every call even for consecutive calls.

PANAMA CANAL - UPDATE ON LOCK OUTAGES YEAR 2000 AND 2001

Explanation:
(1)-Number of lane outage days.
(2)-Number of culvert outage days.
(3)-Transit capacity.
* -Identifies the locks requiring a major outage of one of its two lanes for dry chamber inspection, miter gate repairs, tow-track work or other major maintenance/improvement project. Advantage may be taken of this requirement to perform simultaneous single lane outages for additional maintenance at other locks.
