US COAST GUARD RELEASES NEW CHEMICAL HAZARD RESPONSE INFORMATION SYSTEM MANUAL

The US Coast Guard has issued a new manual which provides information needed for decision-making by Coast Guard personnel during emergencies that occur during the waterborne transportation of hazardous chemicals and chemical mixtures.

This database contains chemical, physical, and toxicological property data for over 1300 chemicals, plus shipping and regulatory information. The new edition is the result of several years’ work, with all data having been reviewed, new data fields added, obsolete fields deleted, and references updated.

The newly revised Chemical Hazard Response Information System (CHRIS) manual provides guidance for personnel in government and private industry for responding to cargo spills as well as ways to prevent accidents. But even people not involved in spill response will find this manual extremely useful for the physical, chemical, and thermodynamic property data it contains.

CHRIS will soon be available on a CD-ROM. For a free copy please mailto:aschneider@comdt.uscg.mil  and y will be placed on their mailing list. The manual is currently available in printed form from the U.S Government Printing Office (Order number 050-012-00406-4, $90 postpaid in the U.S.) CHRIS is also available on line at www.chrismanual.com.
