LIBYA – OVERAGE TANKERS CALLING LIBYA.  DECREE 404 EXTENDED

The Maritime Transport Authority has extended Decree No. 404 for the year 1993 once again till 31 December 2000.  Tankers over 20 years of age can therefore call Libyan ports without problems.

PANAMA – EAST BREAKWATER LIGHT OUT OF SERVICE

The East Breakwater light at the Atlantic Entrance of the Panama Canal is out of service until further notice.  A temporary replacement has been installed with the following characteristic:  Mo(U) Gp Fl G 20s.

PANAMA – NEW E-MAIL ADDRESS FOR COMMUNICATION ON TRANSIT ACTIVITIES

The purpose is to add a new communication method to relay the information required for transit to the Traffic Management Unit of the Department of Maritime Organisation.  This new method comes in addition to the ones already established and posted on MR Notice to Shipping No. N-3-2000, and is implemented in response to suggestions made by the Panama Canal users that available technology be taken advantage of to make the process easier and more efficient.

Effective 1 July 2000 the Traffic Management Unit will be set up to receive ETA notices and any other required transit information by e-mail using the following address;  ETA@pancanal.com

PANAMA – PANAMA CANAL UPDATE REPORT

Although the authorities are scheduling a high number of vessels, some are facing about 24 hours’ delay.

Next lane outages are tentatively announced from 17 July through 29 July 2000 at Miraflores/Gatun locks.  Delays must be anticipated.
