ITALY – POSSIBLE CHANGES TO PORT TARIFFS

Over the years Cardile Bros. (Sicily) S.r.l. have lodged several complaints with the authorities and requested more competitive tariffs. Their efforts finally seem to have brought about change.

In a letter dated 17 July 2000 to all Italian ports, the Ministry of Navigation in Rome has ordered consideration of a more competitive tariff, which may include the following items:

  1. Second and/or third hour surcharge according to vessel’s GT.
  2. Overtime.
  3. Holidays.
  4. Tariff applied for each tug.
  5. Reduction of the number of compulsory tugs.
  6. It is indicated that new tariffs may be issued as early as January 2001.

POLAND/GDANSK – ANTI FIRE AND ANTI SPILL CHARGES

Further to Weekly NEWS No. 43/2000 27 October 2000 these charges are now verified and included in WS ‘2001’ flat rate calculations for Gdansk.

USA/TEXAS CITY – ADDITIONAL CHARGE FOR PAYPHONES

Effective immediately Seaway (ARCO), Texas City, will charge an additional fee of USD 15.00 /vessel for “payphones”.  The current three phones available may be reduced to two.
