Bulgaria – reduction in port tariffs

Further to article in Weekly NEWS No. 48 of 1 December 2000, the Bulgarian Ministry of Transport has finally decided to reduce the tonnage dues from USD 1.05/GT to USD 0.50/GT as from 2 March 2001.  From the above date tankers will therefore not pay higher dues than dry cargo vessels.

Mexico/Coatzacoalcos/Pajaritos Terminal – use of installation charge

As per official notice all vessels loading crude oil at the Pajaritos Terminal will be charged as per the port authorities tariff at 4.24 MXP/meter LOA per hour plus 15% VAT by Pemex.

 Morocco – increase of tariffs

As per decision by the Ministry of Economy, pilotage and towage, tariffs have been increased by 4% with retrospective effect from 16 February 2001. INTERTANKO has urged agents to approach the authorities urging them to follow international practice by giving adequate pre-advice of any intended port cost increases.

USA – customs want to increase fees on some services

The Customs Service is proposing to increase fees for reimbursable services including overtime charges and services provided to parties-in-interest during working hours.  The proposed increase is to compensate for increased salaries and other benefits for customs employees. The increase, however, is insignificant and is not considered by the Worldscale Association to make an impact on the WS flat rate.
