As a security measure, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) regulates the movement of all vessels around the waters of Jurong Island. Vessels are prohibited from entering, anchoring, mooring, transiting or being in the area for any other purpose unless specific approval has been obtained.

Although the relevant directive came into effect on 6 Oct 2001 (MPA Port Marine Circular No:27 of 2001) we have only recently received comments from members regarding the difficulty of accessing vessels for inspectors and agents due to these procedures.

INTERTANKO approached the MPA and the JTC Corporation for clarification and they advised us that the following are the current procedures for accessing tankers berthed at Jurong Island Terminals, until a permanent solution has been established:

A/ Access can be obtained via land through the Checkpoints at Car Park C and JI Highway;

B/ MPA may grant approval to access ships berthed at Jurong Island through small craft.

In both cases, permission from the management of Jurong Island Terminals must be obtained before access to the ships can be facilitated by Jurong Island Security Force or the boat operators.

INTERTANKO will be meeting with JTC officials and MPA in a few days and would appreciate any further feedback from members:
