INTERTANKO’s Chairman to address emergency management and crisis communications at Iberian Peninsular Seminar on 2 December in Madrid

INTERTANKO is organising an Iberian Peninsular Seminar, which will be held in Madrid on 2 December 2004, linking up with the International Tanker Owners Pollution Federation (ITOPF) International Seminar on Spill Preparedness, Response and Compensation. The venue is the Intercontinental Castellana Hotel.

In addition to providing a forum for the exchange of information and experience, the objectives of this INTERTANKO seminar are to update delegates on recent developments in INTERTANKO’s work programme and to look at crisis response with a panel session on ‘Emergency Plans and Crisis Communications’ where INTERTANKO’s Chairman, Stephen Van Dyck, will address the importance of responding quickly and effectively to an industry incident, ensuring inter alia that the necessary measures are taken to protect the industry’s public image and mitigate damage to its reputation. Nick Brown from MTI Network will in addition advise on how to coordinate and control your response to an incident and establish clear lines of communication with the relevant parties, authorities, media and other responders.

The ITOPF seminar in the afternoon will address various topical issues related to preparing for and responding to accidental spills of oil and other substances from ships, as well as looking at liability and compensation.

These meetings will bring together senior representatives from the world’s shipping and marine insurance industries. We look forward to seeing you in Madrid in December!
