MD Swift speaks on double hulls at World Maritime University

INTERTANKO's Managing Director, Dr Peter Swift, spoke this week at the World Maritime University, Malmö, Sweden. The seminar entitled "Risk Management in the Maritime Sector: Challenges and Difficulties" was for Maritime Administrators, and included presentations by international academics, representatives of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA), the Helsinki Commission – the Baltic Marine Environment Protection Commission – (HELCOM), regional coalitions, industry and professional associations.

In his presentation (click here to view) Swift reviewed the developments that led to the adoption of the double hull as a mandatory requirement for new oil tankers, and some of the operational and technical challenges associated with this design.

Also included was an assessment of the technical, commercial and other risks involved with both single and double hull tankers, together with the variety of positions adopted by different countries and regions as well as by various companies.
