Middle East oil and shipping discussed at Dubai meeting

INTERTANKO Managing Director Dr. Peter Swift was a participant in the "Energy Transportation" session at the Seatrade Middle East Maritime Convention held 4-6 December 2006 in Dubai.  In his presentation (click here to view) he reviewed future global oil demand and regional developments in refinery expansion, with particular attention on India, as well as oil import and refining changes in China. He also summarised some of the upside and downside potentials in the tanker market.

In the second part of his talk he covered key issues for tanker shipping, including the need to maintain high-level international structures for standards and regulations, the importance of promoting self-regulation based on industry best practices, the principal environmental issues, and the challenges associated with ensuring the availability of properly trained officers.

Many of the delegates at this conference also attended the ITOPF-INTERTANKO seminar held in Dubai on 6 December – see separate article above.
