INTERTANKO sets up a representative office in Brussels

INTERTANKO has established a representative office in Brussels. This will broaden and strengthen the Association’s links with the European Commission, Parliament and other Representatives, and also with the Association’s long-standing Brussels consultant ADS Insight.

This move will bring INTERTANKO closer to the European regulators and decision makers,” says Kristian Fuglesang. INTERTANKO’s Assistant Director and coordinator of its European Union activities. “It has been made in recognition of the importance of Brussels to the tanker shipping industry and also recognises the great value to our Secretariat and to our Members of the Association’s relationship with ADS Insight.”

The international shipping community realises the significance of Brussels to its business and sees value in being there and working together. Although the institutions of the European Union have finalised a number of regulatory measures of relevance to the tanker industry, there are no indications that it will cease its interest in maritime issues. INTERTANKO will continue to play its constructive role in this respect, which will be helped by this more significant presence in Brussels.

”INTERTANKO has since the 1990s played a progressively constructive part in the European Union’s development of its maritime policy,” says INTERTANKO Chairman Nick Fistes. “An enhanced presence in Brussels is a natural development of this.”
