INTERTANKO's Members’ Seminar in Shanghai

INTERTANKO held its second Members' Seminar in the Asia-Pacific Region earlier this week in Shanghai. As part of a series of Members' Seminars around the region, the Shanghai Seminar drew good participation from local members including CS Tanker, Nanjing Tanker Corporation and COSCO Dalian.

INTERTANKO’s Asian Panel Chairman, David Koo, opened the Seminar and encouraged an open discussion on all the issues currently being worked on by the Association. With this, INTERTANKO’s Managing Director, Peter Swift, and Regional Manager Asia-Pacific, Tim Wilkins, proceeded to introduce a range of issues on the INTERTANKO work agenda. These included an overview of the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction debate going into Copenhagen next week; an update on piracy; a summary of the Hong Kong Convention on Ship Recycling and the associated industry Transitional Measures, and an overview of some of the Association’s marine issues, including the Terminal Vetting Database and the Tanker Energy Efficiency Guide.

A number of issues were raised during the discussion with local Members interested in vetting inspector feedback; developments related to the EU Sulphur Directive, and China crude imports and exports.

Further Members' Seminars will be scheduled for the spring of 2010 in Seoul, Tokyo, Singapore and Dalian.
