EQUASIS celebrates 10 years of increased transparency of ship information

The 10th Anniversary of EQUASIS was celebrated with a reception and buffet at the IMO in London on 29 October. Guests were welcomed by the the Executive Director of the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA), Mr Willem de Ruiter, who recalled the history and objectives of EQUASIS, including its aim "to promote quality in shipping and eradicate sub-standard practices worldwide, by making available reliable and objective information on the safety of ships and their operation".

 

A congratulatory message was delivered by the IMO Secretary General, Thimio Mitropoulos, who spoke of the shared goals of EQUASIS and the IMO. He was followed by USCG RADM Brian M. Salerno, INTERTANKO's Managing Director Dr. Peter Swift and the Director-General of the Korean Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs, Mr Ki Tak Lim, who provided perspectives from the standpoint of port state control regimes, industry as data providers and users, governments and the Supervisory Committee.
