3.5% decrease in US domestic oil production is expected for 2003 - EIA

Lower-48 States’ oil production is expected to decrease by 0.179 mbd to a rate of 4.63 mbd in 2003. Shell’s Brutus platform is expected to reach peak production at 0.100 mbd in 2002.

Oil production from the Mars, Ursa, Dianna-Hoover and Brutus Federal Offshore fields is expected to account for about 10.7% of the lower-48 States’ oil production by the 4th quarter of 2003.

Alaskan oil production is expected to decrease by 2.1% in 2003. Facilities expansion in the new satellite Colville River (Alpine) field will eventually add 0.060 to 0.070 mbd. Another satellite field, North Star, came into operation in November 2001 and is currently producing at a rate of over 0.060 mbd. Production from the Kuparuk River field plus like production from the West Sak, Tabasco, Tarn and Meltwater fields is expected to stay at an average of 0.215 mbd in the 2002 and 2003 forecast periods.
