Training requirements
ECDIS and ballast water management systems are two new pieces of equipment that tankers are required to install and use. It is essential that Members’ crew are properly trained in the operation of these systems to ensure safe navigation and prevention of the transfer of unwanted organisms in ballast water and to preclude Port State Control actions against Members’ tankers for noncompliance. INTERTANKO will actively engage in the development of appropriate training requirements for the operation of these and future systems and assist Members in ensuring that their crew meet these standards.
