INTERTANKO/INTERCARGO U.K. Members’ Lunch Forum – “Turning Compliance Risk to Competitive Advantage”

The next lunch forum for U.K.-based INTERTANKO and INTERCARGO members is scheduled for Friday, 1 June 2007 from 12.00 to 14.30 at the offices of:

LeBoeuf, Lamb, Greene & MacRae

No.1 Minster Court

Mincing Lane

London EC3R 7YL

We have invited Austin (Pierre) Olney, a Boston-based partner at LeBoeuf, Lamb, Greene & MacRae, to give a presentation on “Turning Compliance Risk to Competitive Advantage.” His presentation will outline the challenges facing the shipping industry, as the global tightening of environmental standards gains momentum with NGOs, banks, institutional investors, and manufacturers adding their demands for environmental accountability, transparency and sustainability.

Speaking from his experience after handling over a dozen MARPOL enforcement cases for a wide variety of fleets, Olney says, “It has become clear to me that the shipping industry can achieve important risk management objectives, and even competitive advantage, if it is prepared to replace the conventional approaches to environmental compliance, to adopt some of the "best practice" standards for ship operations and shore side management that are emerging from enforcement cases, and to leverage these enhanced practices with state of the art knowledge management tools."

The seminar is free of charge, and is on a first-come-first-served basis. Please e-mail our U.K. Regional Manager, Minerva Alfonso, to register for the above seminar on or before 23 May 2007.
