INTERTANKO's Executive Committee meets in Singapore

The third INTERTANKO Executive Committee meeting of 2010 was held on 12 October 2010 in Singapore, followed by the Council meeting. The meeting was chaired by INTERTANKO's Chairman Capt Graham Westgarth of Teekay Corporation.

The meeting considered a proposed table on Workplan priorities for 2011 that had been prepared by the Secretariat for consideration by the Council. It was noted that the Workplan issues were categorised under six core purposes with high priorities identified as those issues where INTERTANKO should be taking a proactive, leadership role in trying to achieve an outcome that is beneficial to the tanker industry.

It also noted that the Workplan included five guiding principles to be taken into account when considering an issue and developing desired outcomes, and an execution plan that contained the action items to be taken after Council had agreed on the Workplan. The Committee agreed that the table should be fully discussed by the Council to decide on the Workplan priorities for 2011.

INTERTANKO's Managing Director Dr Peter Swift gave an overview of the finances of the Association to date this year and indicated that the year-end figures should be on budget, if not slightly ahead. He also gave a preliminary indication of budget issues for 2011.

Further important policy items, including GHG emission reductions, control of the quality of bunkers and problems associated with high mercury content in certain crudes, were followed up at the Council meeting.

The next Executive Committee meeting will take place on 17 November in Vancouver.
